COVERED WALKWAY

As seen from the northern side of the church
this covered entryway leads to the front doors of the church.

SANCTUARY

Behind the altar a coloured sandstone reredos rises to the ceiling.
The vertical ribs are then extended in the exposed rafters of the ceiling all of polished silver ash.

ALTAR & TWO SHRINES

The Altar is the focal point in every Catholic Church. This design draws the worshipper to the Altar by allowing the sculpted pure white Gosford sandstone of the Altar to be displayed in its simple lines. On the left side of the church is the Shrine of the Sacred Heart, called the Shrine of the Modern Family. On the opposite side is the Shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Stephen Moor designed both shrines.

CRUCIFIX

An Altar and all the things about it are for the offering of Mass,
which is a re-offering of the Sacrifice of Calvary.
The Crucifix is carved wood; the work of Heinrich Woolf.
It reminds us that our redemption was bought with suffering.

THE BALDACHINO

The Baldachino (the canopy over the altar) is of aluminium,
in it is woven the Crown of Thorns and the Nails of the Crucifixion.
The inscription on the Baldachino are Christ's words
spoken at the Last Supper
"Hoc Est Corpus Meum Pro Vobis Datum"
THIS IS MY BODY, GIVEN FOR YOU (Luke 12:19).

SAWTOOTH WALL

As you enter the church you are not conscious of windows on the southern side. It is only when you are halfway down the building that you will see the light streaming from the windows of the sawtooth wall highlighting the sanctuary, without causing glare in the body of the church. The symbols on the windows relate to the Mass.

OUR LADY'S SHRINE

Dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The side altar is also of Gosford white sandstone and is covered with a slab of Sicilian marble. The shrine is set against a wall of polished ash ply.

OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP

The icon by Alan Gelston of Tasmania, is the central figure of Our Lady's shrine. It is an exact copy of the original found in the church of St Alphonsus in Rome. This icon came from Crete to Rome in the 16th Century. The frame is wrought iron and copper with bronze motifs of titles honouring Mary - fluer de lis (her virginity) - the moon (ref Apocalypse) - Morning Star - Mary as Fountain of Life - the anchor symbolises hope - the crown as Queen of heaven and earth.

SANCTUARY & NAVE WINDOWS

Another feature of the sanctuary are the leadlight windows using rich coloured antique Belgium glass. Windows in the northern wall of the church at gallery level have a Eucharist theme and on the northern wall under the gallery depictions of the instruments of the passion feature.

STATUE OF MARY

The statue of Our Lady of the Holy Spirit is one of the few imported items in the church. Most other artefacts have been produced in Australia.

LECTERN

The Holy Spirit (the Dove of the Gospels) features on the front of the lectern. This work is in beaten brass. Symbols in brass around the church, were executed by Peter Menagazzo of Wollongong.
